This initiative facilitates connections between early career investigators and researchers at the Temple University Collaborative on Community Inclusion of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities in order to answer secondary research questions of interest to those early in their careers. The TU Collaborative is a Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) partially funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).

Live & Learn is responsible for facilitating connections between early career investigators and RRTC researchers. 

Project Objectives

Who is considered an "early career investigator"?

A person who identifies as having a psychiatric disability/history, or someone who conducts research that incorporates the perspectives of such individuals, and is a master’s or doctoral student, post-doctoral fellow, or junior faculty (before tenure).

  • Encourage research on community living and people with psychiatric disabilities by students and early career investigators with lived experience
  • Build capacity of such investigators in academia to conduct research, analysis, and publish peer-reviewed papers
  • Foster expanded professional networks through collaborative relationships with TU Collaborative RRTC Principal Investigators (PI) and other researchers

 

WHY GET INVOLVED?

The Early Career Data Connection Initiative is an opportunity for people earlier in their careers to have access to large, federally-funded data sets to conduct research that can advance the mental health services research agenda. Involvement in this project will provide professional networking opportunities with researchers outside of your home institution, and promote expanded knowledge and expertise in mental health services and quantitative analysis. 

The ECDC Initiative is not a training program where students are directed by a faculty member. Early career investigators are encouraged to identify their goals for their projects in partnership with the Temple University PI on the data set. Relationships between early career investigators and PIs will be individually negotiated, with the hope of honing leadership skills - in addition to research experience - with the support of the PI.

Early career investigators will be afforded authorship on academic publications arising from their work.
